Doctors at Accra’s 37 Military Hospital have successfully extracted a motorbike key that had become trapped in the skull of a 29-year-old farmer from Awoma, a rural hamlet in the Jasikan Municipality of Oti Region.
According to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Moro Razak suffered the potentially fatal injury on Tuesday, July 21 at around 9 p.m. while trying to break up a brawl between two young people in Amenyo, another farming settlement in the municipality.
According to reports, two young people from Bodada who had come to Amenyo to bet were involved in the brawl.
Razak is said to have been stabbed with a motorcycle key during the altercation, causing it to become embedded in his skull. Razak intervened to bring the situation under control.
Due to the seriousness of his illness, he was referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after receiving emergency care at the Jasikan Municipal Hospital.
The victim’s uncle, Moro Alhassan, who has been staying with him at the hospital, gave the Ghana News Agency (GNA) an update on Monday, stating that doctors had successfully removed the motorbike key on Sunday, July 26.
“The operation was successful, and Razak is recovering well by the grace of Allah,” Mr. Alhassan stated.
He thanked the medical staff at 37 Military Hospital for their skill and commitment in saving the life of the young farmer.
Alhassan also thanked friends, family, and the general public for their prayers and other kinds of support after the event, and he urged people to keep praying for Mr. Razak’s full recovery while he was still being monitored by doctors.
Residents of Awoma, Amenyo, and the surrounding settlements have been stunned by the incident, which many have described as an unfortunate outcome of a disagreement that turned violent.
The event is still being investigated by the police.
