Today, May 26, 2023, the Parliament’s Appointments Committee will examine Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo’s application for the position of Chief Justice.
In April 2023, she received the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nomination.
The President stated that she was nominated to fill any vacancies that might arise after the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, on May 24.

If confirmed, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who comes from Winneba in the Central Region, will follow Justices Georgina Theodora Wood and Sophia Akuffo as the third female Chief Justice in Ghana’s history.
