Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of the Federal Republic of Germany, is scheduled to arrive in Ghana today, Sunday, November 2, 2025, to begin a three-day state visit that will strengthen the two nations’ long-standing bilateral ties.
At the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, the visit is anticipated to concentrate on enhancing collaboration in important domains like development, commerce, investment, and technology.
The Government Communications Ministry said in a program that the official engagements would start in Accra on Monday, November 3.
A full military Guard of Honour inspection will greet President Steinmeier at the Jubilee House, the Presidency’s forecourt.
The two presidents will meet behind closed doors following the formal greeting, and then they will take their respective delegations to the Credentials Room for more extensive bilateral discussions.
Later, the visiting German President and his delegation will be honoured with a State Luncheon at the Presidential Banquet Hall.
President Steinmeier is expected to have a guided tour of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park later in the day.
He will place a wreath at the grave of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, as a symbolic act.
The emphasis on technology and innovation is further highlighted by his agenda, which also includes an engaging discussion with young Ghanaian IT experts.
A reception at the German Ambassador’s home in Accra will mark the end of the day.
In the Ashanti Region, President Steinmeier will visit Kumasi on the third and last day of his trip. There, he will conduct a sod-cutting ceremony for a development project at the Kumasi Technical Institute.
Additionally, the German President is anticipated to engage with the Vice-Chancellor, faculty, and students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), emphasising Ghana and Germany’s collaboration in education and science.
During his stay in Kumasi, he will pay a courtesy call to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, at the Manhyia Palace and tour the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research.
On the evening of Tuesday, November 4, President Steinmeier is expected to leave Ghana.
The visit “underscores the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and Germany, and is expected to open a new chapter of enhanced cooperation for mutual benefit,” according to a statement released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president’s spokesperson.
The high-level visit is expected to have a major impact, according to analysts, especially in increasing German investment in Ghana’s developing manufacturing and technology sectors.
