Ghana is not included in the US government’s most recent Green Card review and temporary immigration suspension, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
According to Mr Ablakwa, he has got a briefing from Rolf Olson, the Acting US Ambassador to Ghana.
Mr Ablakwa announced the outcome of his meeting with the acting US Ambassador on Monday [December 1, 2025], saying their discussion covered recent developments in Ghana’s relations with the US and confirmed that Ghana was not included in the new measures introduced by President Donald Trump’s administration.
He said the talks also covered the restoration of five–year visas for Ghanaian travellers, the lifting of the 15 per cent tariffs on cocoa, semi-processed cocoa and other qualifying agricultural products, and preparations for Ghanaian supporters preparing for World Cup activities.
Mr Ablakwa said the government would continue to pursue accords that deliver the best outcomes for Ghanaians.
According to him, both parties also addressed security cooperation under the Defence Cooperation Agreement.
He said this will involve expanded intelligence exchanges and training exercises that use US military aviation capabilities, with all actions coordinated with the proper Ghanaian authorities.
On trade, Mr Ablakwa stated that Ghana is optimistic about current discussions under the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
According to publicly available information in the United States, no formal list of exempted countries has been issued.
Ghana is not on the list of countries affected by the new review, but there has been no formal confirmation other than the minister’s comments.
Mr Ablakwa stated that Ghana’s national interest dictates all interactions with the United States.
