The Vice President’s spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, has refuted assertions made on social media that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia maintains British citizenship while serving as vice president.
Dr. Gideon Boako emphasized in a message on his Facebook page on Friday night that Dr. Bawumia has never held British citizenship or any other citizenship in his life.
The statement on his page read, “The post of the Vice President has been made aware of a malicious social media accusation that the Vice President is in violation of Ghanaian law by maintaining British citizenship while serving in the post of Vice President.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia does not currently possess British citizenship and has never held British citizenship or any other citizenship other than being a Ghanaian, we want to make that clear. The accusation has to be regarded with the disdain it merits. Thank youl.
