The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has given the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, a detailed plan to transform Agbogbloshie Market into a contemporary 100,000-stall complex in order to encourage orderly commerce, enhance sanitation, and reduce traffic in the city.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, engaged members of the Ga Traditional Council in Accra to formally present the proposal, titled Urban Regeneration of Agbogbloshie, to the Mayor.
During the visit, which took place on the second day of the Regional Minister’s tour, the President reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating closely with traditional authorities for the advancement of the Ga-Dangme people and consulted the Ga Mantse on important developmental concerns.
The Accra Mayor reiterated the Assembly’s dedication to working with the Ga Traditional Council to resolve the concerns of the Ga people prior to receiving the paper.

“The visit was also to listen directly to the concerns of the Ga people and better understand the barriers affecting the development of Ga land, so that the Assembly, Regional Coordinating Council and traditional authorities could work together to find solutions,” he stated.
The Ga Mantse stated that an investor was prepared to take on the project and that, once operational, the scheme will assist solve the growing issue of roadside trade in Accra.
He urged assistance in transforming the space into a suitable facility to help reduce traffic in the city, move vendors from the side of the road into a respectable setting, and greatly enhance sanitation.
In his speech, the Greater Accra Regional Minister expressed gratitude to the Ga Mantse, members of the Ga Traditional Council, for their support and emphasized the importance of resolving chieftaincy disputes in order to maintain peace and progress.

She also expressed her gratitude to God for the establishment of an investment desk by the Ga Traditional Council, pointing out that several investment opportunities were on the horizon.
Since the project was supposed to start right away, she pleaded with the Council to keep her office updated. She also promised His Royal Majesty that they would come back to meet with him individually to decide on the next steps and turn the concept into a reality.
In order to address traffic and human congestion during the celebrations, she also announced the start of a “Traffic Free for Christmas” initiative. She added that all police district commanders and regional commands for Accra and Tema would be involved to plan traffic management strategies and guarantee a more seamless flow of movement in the city.
