Two people, including a Canadian national, have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly inflicting significant unauthorised damage at an Oyarifa home.

“The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a case of causing unlawful damage at Oyarifa Anointed Down in the Greater Accra Region,” the Service said in a press statement dated December 27, 2025.

The accused were identified as Canadian Jennifer Mae Tomlinson and Mohammed Issah, her lover from Ghana. On December 23, 2025, and December 25, 2025, respectively, they were taken into custody.

The arrests, according to the police, came after “investigations into an arson incident at the flat.”

According to preliminary police findings, the act was intentional.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects, who were tenants occupying the apartment, deliberately set the property ablaze on 23rd December 2025, completely destroying it without any apparent provocation,” the press release stated.

Mohammed Issah was taken into custody first in the order of arrests.

“Suspect Mohammed Issah was arrested by the Ayimensah Abokobi Police on the same day the incident occurred,” said the statement.

Jennifer Mae Tomlinson, his accused accomplice, first avoided apprehension. The woman “went into hiding and was later arrested from her hideout on 25 December 2025.”

Both people are currently being held while investigations are ongoing.

The Criminal Investigation Division stated that “both suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations, and they will be put before the court to face charges in accordance with the law.”

Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Criminal Investigation Department’s Public Relations Officer, signed the press release.
