The Ministry of the Interior has declared that money will be released to pay employees of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service their outstanding rent allowance arrears from 2025.
The Ministry said that all qualified personnel from all three services who were impacted by the delay are covered by the payment in a statement released by its Public Affairs and Communications Unit yesterday, Monday, March 2.
The Ministry thanked staff members for their understanding and patience as the government sought to resolve the backlog.
Additionally, it announced that the rent allowance payment system has been mechanised and revealed that steps have been taken to avoid future delays.
Rent allowances will be processed and distributed alongside officers’ monthly wages starting in March 2026, according to the Ministry.
The Ministry stated that it will continue to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Finance and other pertinent partners to guarantee the timely payment of all entitlements and reiterated its commitment to enhancing the welfare of employees under its supervision.
