The Korle Bu Doctors Association has formally halted its strike, which started early on Monday, May 4, 2026, after hospital administration promised to reinstate laboratory physicians.
The Association declared in a formal letter to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s CEO that the decision to halt the industrial action was made following a Monday morning meeting in which management gave assurances regarding the deployment of laboratory physicians to the Central Laboratory.
Ghana’s top teaching hospital’s outpatient services were interrupted by the strike, however KODA has now instructed all members to return to their regular responsibilities as of Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The statement, which was signed by Dr. Asare Offei, Chairman of KODA, stated, “We believe the peaceful coexistence of Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists at the Central Laboratory is best for quality healthcare delivery,”
The association also urged its members to start offering outpatient services again tomorrow, May 5, 2026.
The warning was copied to the KBTH Board Chair, the Director of Medical Affairs at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Director of Human Resources, all media outlets, and the general public.
Thousands of patients who depend on the hospital’s outpatient services on a daily basis will be relieved by the speedy ending of the strike action.
It is anticipated that more information about the precise guarantees provided by management will be shared in due course.
