The first round of talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially begun.
This action is praised as a significant step in fortifying bilateral economic ties.
Speaking on behalf of the Ghanaian government, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, called the talks a “bold and strategic milestone” that represents the two countries’ expanding cooperation.
In order to promote trade in products and services, investment, digital commerce, innovation, industrialisation, and sustainable economic growth, she stated that the CEPA will go beyond conventional trade agreements.
“The agreement aligns perfectly with Ghana’s economic transformation agenda, supporting industrial development, export diversification, and the creation of sustainable jobs for youth and women entrepreneurs,” Hon. Ofosu-Adjare stated.
She also emphasised Ghana’s position as the host of the African Continental Free commerce Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, highlighting the chance to establish Ghana as a hub for continental investment and commerce.
The UAE’s Minister for Foreign Trade, H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, urged negotiators to conclude talks on legal and institutional frameworks, trade facilitation, rules of origin, and customs procedures, among other topics, during the three-day meeting.
He also reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to bolstering trade and investment relations with Ghana.
