Seven people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road crash on the Bolgatanga–Bawku Highway at Saka, near Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region on June 13.
The fatal accident involved a commercial passenger vehicle and a Yutong bus. The cause of the crash is yet to be established by authorities.
According to several eyewitness accounts, the commercial vehicle was travelling from Bawku towards Bolgatanga, while the Yutong bus was heading in the opposite direction towards Bawku when one of the vehicles reportedly lost control, resulting in a head-on collision.
The eyewitnesses further said the impact of the crash was severe, killing all seven victims instantly. Several other passengers sustained injuries.
Emergency responders with support from community members rushed the injured to nearby health facilities for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to a morgue pending identification and further procedures.
