Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, was taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in relation to the shooting incident that occurred on June 21, 2026, involving Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.

On June 22, 2026, the suspect reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters. He was then turned over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to help with the incident’s ongoing investigations.

120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of 40 calibre ammunition, additional filled magazines, and two Glock pistols—one of which is registered in his name—were found during a search of his car and home in Kwabenya.

Two further suspects in the case, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, were apprehended as a result of further investigations.

All of the suspects are being held by the police to aid with investigations, and they will all appear in court tomorrow, June 23, 2026.
