The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised applicants seeking various constituency executive seats not to make cash payments to constituency election committees, as nominations began nationwide on Monday.
The NPP’s deputy general secretary, Haruna Mohammed, stated that all nomination form payments must be submitted via the party’s official website.
He emphasised in an interview that constituency election committees were not permitted to accept cash donations from candidates.
“Today is the opening of nominations, and people have started purchasing their forms. There is an online portal where you make the payment, then take your receipt to the committee to collect your form,” he said.
“No one should pay money to the elections committee for the form. Make the payment online, submit your receipt to the committee, and then collect your form.”
Nominations for the NPP began on Monday, June 22, and are anticipated to end on Wednesday, June 24.
On June 25 and 27, candidates will be vetted, and on June 28 and 30, appeals will be entertained.
On July 11 and 12, there will likely be constituency executive elections.
Mr. Mohammed stated that nomination forms would be available through constituency offices and urged candidates to carefully follow all instructions and processes specified in the forms.
“All the guidelines in the form should be adhered to by all party members who are interested in contesting,” he stated.
Constituency Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, and Communications Officer are among the positions up for grabs.
Party guidelines state that candidates must be NPP members in good standing and fulfil all qualifying conditions specified in the party’s election regulations and constitution.
Before submitting, they must also fill out nomination paperwork and obtain the relevant endorsements.
The constituency executive elections are a component of the party’s national reorganisation program, which aims to fortify its national and local structures in preparation for upcoming political initiatives.
As the party continues its internal electoral calendar, the exercise comes after polling station and electoral area elections were successfully conducted nationwide.
