The Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has begun a statewide Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) Campaign to tackle the growing threat of drug misuse in Ghana’s schools.

The program is a component of the government’s creative and proactive approach to safeguarding students from the negative consequences of substance addiction and encouraging secure, healthy, and orderly learning environments nationwide.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been instructed by the Honourable Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to implement a daily anti-drug awareness message in all pre-tertiary schools across the country as part of the campaign.

With immediate effect, students will repeat the authorised campaign message at morning assemblies, right before the National Pledge and right after the National Anthem.

The following is the campaign’s message: Leader: “Don’t start it as a greeting:’ Students: “To live in regret!’

This directive is a crucial part of a larger national Behavioural Change Communication Strategy that aims to promote responsible decision-making among students, increase preventive education, and deter drug use among school-age children.

Sustained public education initiatives, school-based sensitisation programs, stakeholder engagement initiatives, and improved cooperation between educational institutions, parents, community leaders, and other important partners will all support the campaign.

The Ministry of Education calls on all stakeholders to assist this national campaign to eradicate drug addiction from Ghana’s schools and educational institutions because it is still dedicated to protecting each learner’s future and well-being.
