The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has asked Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to rescind its decision to suspend all employee contracts following the recent flooding at its Accra location.

The ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, that it had a “very strong view” of the instruction and directed the state-owned agency’s management to immediately remove it.

The move comes after GDCL published a circular stating that all employees’ employment contracts would be temporarily suspended, effective July 1, 2026, pending what it called a “comprehensive assessment” of the Center’s post-flood status.

The government, however, objected to the action and maintained that the ruling should not be implemented.

“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and immediately instructs Management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.

The ministry also showed support for employees impacted by the recent flooding, pointing out that in addition to the Center’s devastation, many employees had experienced personal losses.

“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29 floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our agencies,” the statement continued.

The intervention follows a trip to the Ghana Digital Centers on Tuesday, June 30, by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations to determine the extent of the floods’ devastation.

The center, which is home to a large number of startups, digital innovation firms, and technology enterprises, reportedly sustained major damage when heavy rains caused serious flooding in several areas of the capital.

The management of Ghana Digital Centers Limited has been called to the Ministry on Wednesday, July 2, to explain the facts surrounding the contentious suspension directive and talk about the next steps after the minister’s inspection.
