President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his great grief, characterising his passing as a significant loss to Dagbon and the entire country, following the death of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II,.
President Mahama offered his condolences to the Royal Family, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, and all Ghanaians grieving the loss of a revered traditional leader after receiving a delegation from the Dagbon Traditional Council at the Presidency to formally announce the death of the Overlord of Dagbon.
Reflecting on his longstanding friendship with Ya-Na Abukari II, the President described the late King as a father figure whose wisdom and counsel crossed political and social lines and recalled their close partnership throughout efforts to restore peace to Dagbon.
President Mahama recognised the late Ya-Na’s outstanding leadership, emphasising his part in turning Dagbon from a time of strife into a representation of harmony, peace, and stability.
The late Overlord’s dedication to peacebuilding, particularly his attempts to fortify traditional governance, foster communication, and create a long-lasting framework for Dagbon’s peaceful future, was praised by the President.
President Mahama characterised Ya-Na Abukari II as a national statesman and peacemaker who was respected throughout Ghana due to his wisdom, humility, and commitment to the country’s unity.
As the last funeral ceremonies are being prepared, the President gave the chiefs and people of Dagbon the assurance that the government will collaborate closely with the Dagbon Traditional Council to offer the required support and state honours.
He prayed for Ya-Na Abukari II to rest in peace and for the Royal Family, the Dagbon people, and the country as a whole to have courage and solace.
