The FDA conducted a combined enforcement exercise at the Tema Newtown fishing enclave yesterday in coordination with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces, to protect public health.

Contaminated fish were seized from fish handlers during the operation and disposed of safely to keep them out of the food supply chain.

The need of upholding proper hygiene and implementing safe fish handling and processing techniques were also taught to the fish handlers.

Along with assuring the FDA that hygienic platforms will be built to give fish processors safer and more hygienic facilities for drying and smoking fish, the TMA has also started a demolition project to make room for the removal of accumulated trash along the shoreline.

The FDA is still dedicated to collaborating with important stakeholders to guarantee that food supplied to the general public is healthy, safe, and of high quality.
