The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the state-owned gold-buying institution recorded a $1.7 billion loss in 2025.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Mr. Gyamfi described the allegation as false and urged the public to rely on GoldBod’s audited financial statements when assessing the institution’s financial performance.

GoldBod Reports GH¢5.4 Billion Overall Surplus

According to Sammy Gyamfi, GoldBod’s audited annual report and financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, show that the institution recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million.

He further stated that GoldBod recorded an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion for the same financial year.

The GoldBod CEO said these audited figures contradict claims that the institution suffered a $1.7 billion loss in 2025.

Sammy Gyamfi Challenges Afenyo-Markin’s GoldBod Claims

Mr. Gyamfi accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other opposition figures of repeatedly making claims about GoldBod’s alleged losses in Parliament and through the media.

He said GoldBod has consistently challenged the allegations and encouraged Ghanaians to examine the institution’s audited accounts for an accurate assessment of its financial position.

According to the GoldBod CEO, discussions about the institution’s finances should be based on audited financial reports and verified figures, rather than what he described as politically motivated claims.

GoldBod Financial Performance Under Scrutiny

The controversy over GoldBod’s 2025 financial performance comes amid increased public interest in the institution’s gold purchases, revenue generation, financial management and contribution to Ghana’s economy.

Sammy Gyamfi maintained that the audited financial statements provide the clearest basis for evaluating GoldBod’s financial performance and determining whether the institution recorded a profit or loss in 2025.
