Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, joined the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and members of the Muslim community for the 2026 National Maulid celebration in Accra.

The annual National Maulid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), provided an opportunity for Muslims across Ghana to celebrate their faith while reflecting on the values and teachings of the Prophet.

Dr. Bawumia said the occasion should go beyond celebration and serve as a time for Ghanaians to reflect on important virtues including peace, unity, humility, patience and discipline.

He encouraged Muslims and Christians, as well as people of other faiths, to continue promoting religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Ghana. According to him, respecting the country’s religious diversity is essential to maintaining national unity and building a stable future.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia further called on Ghanaians to live together in harmony and strengthen the bonds that unite the nation.

He said continued commitment to peace, religious tolerance and national unity would help create a peaceful Ghana for present and future generations.
