The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has advised motorists without urgent business in Kaneshie to avoid the area following a temporary road closure at Pamprom Junction.
The closure, which began on Monday, September 7, 2026, affects the westbound carriageway of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction. The restriction forms part of ongoing road and drainage improvement works being undertaken under the GARID Project.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, GARID Project Coordinator Dr Ohene Sarfo warned that the temporary closure could significantly increase traffic congestion around Kaneshie, which is already experiencing heavy vehicular pressure.
He therefore urged motorists travelling to other parts of Accra to consider alternative routes instead of passing through Kaneshie.
“If you don’t have any business in Kaneshie as a destination, as much as possible avoid it, because the traffic will build up, and it will really be inconvenient,” Dr Sarfo said.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Motorists looking to bypass the affected section can consider using Kwame Nkrumah Avenue through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North before connecting to the N1 Highway.
Another recommended alternative is the Atta Mills Highway, which motorists can use through Korle Bu and Dansoman, before exiting around Mallam and Sakaman.
According to the GARID Project Coordinator, the use of alternative routes will help reduce the number of vehicles heading towards Kaneshie and ease traffic congestion around Pamprom Junction.
He explained that Kaneshie has currently become a major traffic hotspot, making it important for motorists to cooperate with the temporary traffic management measures.
“You could even use the Atta Mills Highway and onwards through Korle Bu, Dansoman, and exit at Mallam, Sakaman, thereabouts, so that the volumes would reduce coming to this point,” he stated.
GARID Appeals for Motorists’ Cooperation
Dr Sarfo also appealed to motorists who need to use the affected stretch to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials.
He said motorists’ cooperation would help contractors complete the ongoing works as quickly as possible and allow the road to be reopened to traffic.
“For those who need to come through here, we would ask for your cooperation so that we can get this activity ongoing quickly, finish quickly, and then we can open it up to traffic,” he added.
The temporary road closure is expected to affect traffic flow in Kaneshie and surrounding areas, and motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time and consider alternative routes during the construction period.
