President John Dramani Mahama has joined Russian President Vladimir Putin and other African leaders for the opening of the Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, expanding trade and promoting sustainable development between Russia and African countries.

The two-day summit, which began on October 28 and ends on October 29, 2026, provides a platform for discussions on key issues, including international trade, energy, technology, peace and security, and economic development.

The gathering seeks to deepen diplomatic relations and explore new investment opportunities that could benefit Russia and African economies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Vladimir Putin revealed that Russia exported more than 13 million tonnes of agricultural products to Africa between January and September 2026. The announcement highlighted the growing importance of agricultural trade and food supply cooperation between Russia and the African continent.

President Mahama also participated in the official welcome ceremony for heads of delegations attending the summit, where he joined other African leaders and was received alongside President Putin.

The high-level meeting underscores ongoing efforts by Russia and African countries to strengthen diplomatic ties, increase bilateral trade and promote mutually beneficial partnerships.

For Ghana, the summit presents an opportunity to explore potential areas of cooperation in agriculture, energy, technology and investment as the country seeks to expand its international economic partnerships.
