According to Ghana’s sports minister, Mustapha Ussif, negotiations have taken place to ensure that Black Stars players are not paid more than they were for the Brazil 2014 World Cup. Ghana’s budget for the 2022 World Cup is reportedly ready.
According to Ussif, who spoke with the media following the National Team Day Walk with the Legends on Saturday, each Black Stars player received at least $100,000 in 2014, and no player would receive more than that amount in Qatar.
He clarified that the decision had been made because of the nation’s current economic challenges.
He explained, “We have a budget anticipated for the entire tournament, and where we are going to reach will determine how much we are going to spend. Until we finish the tournament, we can’t tell you how much we are going to spend.
“We have discussed all of the Black Stars’ incentives for this World Cup with them, but we won’t reveal them to Ghanaians until after the competition. Everyone will be aware of how much Black Stars will want. Due to the current economic climate, we have made it clear to them that we won’t be increasing what they now have in Brazil, so it will remain as is, Ussif continued.
FIFA has promised Ghana $12 million in preparation fees and group stage revenues only for making it to the World Cup. However, Ghana will earn additional money if they advance further in the tournament, which is their goal for the trip to Qatar.
On November 24, Portugal will play the Black Stars; four days later, South Korea; and on December 2, Uruguay.
