The National Service Scheme is one of the very relevant institutions that should be strengthened and supported in the nation to carry out its mandates because of the impact it has had on the youth of Ghana, according to Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education and MP for Assin South.
At the National Service Scheme’s (NSS) 50th Anniversary Remembrance and Flag-raising event, which was held in Accra and broadcast to all Regional Secretariats yesterday and honored all fallen heroes since the scheme’s inception, he was speaking to attendees and stakeholders.
The Deputy Minister said: I have heard about some who cast doubt on the National Service Scheme’s applicability and others who are campaigning for its dissolution, just as some of you may have heard about them.
“I dare say that the Ghana National Service Scheme is one organization or institution that needs to be safeguarded and even strengthened in order to carry out its mandate.”
Rev. Fordjour highlighted that the NSS has had a significant impact on several important areas of the nation’s economy, including agriculture, education, health, and transportation.
Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, spoke about the significance of Remembrance Day and how it helps the program remember all of its fallen employees and the national service personnel who have dedicated their lives to serving Mother Ghana.
They made the ultimate sacrifice, he said, and we must make sure their memory endure in our hearts and in history.
He claimed that since the NSS’s creation in 1973, it had significantly shaped the lives of countless people and advanced the country.
