Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, has urged the party’s leadership to guarantee an impartial election process free of prejudice and open support for a specific candidate at the next National Delegates Congress in November.

The final choice to represent the party in the general elections of 2024 will be made by the Congress.

He asserted that if they feel the election is fair and not being rigged to favor one candidate, all candidates will enthusiastically accept the results of the fight on November 4.

“We will need each other. Therefore, all must be treated well, “he said

Dr. Akoto further urged the leadership of the elephant family to activate the party’s conflict resolution mechanism and help to build bridges by enlisting everyone in their forward march to ending the eight-year cycle of government in 2024 in an interview with a variety of media at his campaign office in Accra on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

He claimed that the National Delegates Conference on November 4th was negatively impacted by the events leading up to the Super Delegates Conference and its immediate aftermath, where a number of issues were brought up.

The sooner those issues are addressed, according to Dr. Akoto, who has over 18 years of experience working for the UN Systems, the better.

For instance, he suggested that everyone should reject retaliation assaults on flagbearer supporters while the party leadership works to bring the presidential candidates together even before the election on November 4.

“The chances of our great NPP going into election 2024 are clear. We stand to win the election. Therefore, acts of intimidation, reprisal attacks on individuals, and machinations against one another must cease forthwith. As I have already alluded to, we can’t go into the 2024 election on a limping leg. We must close our ranks now,” he stated.

Dr. Akoto Afriyie, who finished fourth in the Super Delegates Conference held on September 26, 2023, was making public comments for the first time about the party’s flagbearership polls.

The former two-term MP for the Kwadaso constituency expressed concern over the party’s lack of unity in advance of the general elections in 2024 and noted that it is past time that all attempts were made to resolve it.

He argued that, despite the fact that the situation places a heavy load on the party’s national officials to deal with, everyone who matters in the organization, including all flagbearer candidates, must work to reunite the UP tradition.

“Acts that seek to provoke opposing flagbearer contestants should not be entertained. All our campaign messages must be decorous to attract floating voters. Let us preach what we can do to develop NPP and Ghana, not things that will bring us down, “Dr. Akoto stated.
