“In order to achieve Accra’s sustainable growth, there is still more work to be done” – Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
She asserted that it was essential for the nation to foster a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible metropolis.
According to Accra’s mayor, Honorable Elizabeth Sackey, local government is fundamental to overall world governance.
She remarked that over the years, there has been a consistent effort to work extremely hard in the drafting of policy that guarantees that local governance provides the necessary results when speaking at the opening of the 125th anniversary commemoration since the establishment of AMA.
She pointed out that the Metropolitan’s attempts to answer the city’s issues went through a remarkable number of years of struggles, considerations, and laborious planning and execution.
According to the AMA Mayor, over the course of the city’s 125-year history, creating a more resilient city has been the overarching goal that has remained at the center of “our planning and design of programs and projects, including working with our communities to fulfill the dream of a smart City.”

The Hon. Sackey remarked that Foster City resilience is a key component of the concept of sustainable development and that it assures the safety, dependability, and health of our communities on a global scale and in practically every development paradigm.
“The vulnerabilities of our cities in recent times have threatened many lives and exposed our fragile institutional weaknesses. In the midst of these challenges however, history placed us on the scale of shining successes. Accra, of course, is not the Accra we know many years ago. The city has transformed remarkably on the scale of global cities and remain one of the busiest in Africa” she stated.
