Concerns over the ongoing limited voter registration drive have been expressed by the residents of Domeabra, Gyatakpo, Accra Town, Batorkope, and other surrounding villages around the Volta Lake in the Pru East district of the Bono East region.

They have emphasized how expensive it is to take a boat from their villages to Yeji, the district’s administrative center. This trip costs fifty Ghana cedis per person on market days and seventy Ghana cedis per person on non-market days.

Those without a Ghana Card would find this situation especially difficult because they must convey two additional people as guarantors.

These citizens have urged the Electoral Commission to change its mind and decentralize the registration process so that it is easier for them to use.

They contend that the current election, which started on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, was intended to be a privilege for all eligible residents in the nation but has changed due to the geographic difficulties certain Ghanaians confront.

These problems affect a number of communities in the Pru East district of the Bono East Region, including Domeabra, Batorkope, Gyatakpo, Accra town, and many others.

The perils of traveling on the approximately 40-mile-long Volta Lake have also drawn the attention of the locals. The trip on the lake becomes especially dangerous during the rainy season due to potential boat mishaps.

The people believe that the circumstances surrounding the limited registration exercise are adverse and deterrent to their participation in light of these difficulties.

To make the registration procedure more convenient for voters and accessible, they are requesting that the Electoral Commission send registration officers to their communities.

They stress that many voters may lose their right to vote if the Electoral Commission does not execute the process at the polling places as it has in the past.
