Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former trade minister who unsuccessfully ran for the role of flagbearer within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to discuss his political future today, September 25, 2023, at a scheduled news conference.
Mr. Kyerematen, who took part in the first round of the NPP’s flagbearer election and attempted to reduce the field of candidates from 10 to 5, eventually withdrew from the primary contest, claiming that the party’s leadership was biased in favor of one particular candidate.
There is widespread talk that Mr. Kyerematen may cut relations with the party and run for president on his own. But later today, when he reveals his long-term plans, the mystery will be revealed.
There’s still a chance that he’ll decide to stick with the party, support one of the other four candidates vying for the coveted flagbearer role, or go it alone with his political aspirations.
