The chief of a task group that combats illegal mining was shot, and the suspect is now on the run.

On October 18, 2023, in Asamang Tamfoe, Atewa East District, where the task force had gone to attack a mining location, the incident took place.

The suspect, known only as Danso, is a local miner and youth leader.

He made an effort to thwart the task force’s attempts to capture him and Joe, another miner who was carrying a revolver.

The Commanding Officer of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce, Major Patrick Don-Chebe, was shot in the ribs by Danso at close range.

While the taskforce members attended to their wounded commander, Danso and Joe left the area.

After being brought to the Kibi government hospital, Major Patrick Don-Chebe was later sent to the 37 military hospital for surgery.

Joe has been detained by the police, while Danso is still at large. To discover him and bring him to justice, they are conducting a manhunt. The reason for the shooting as well as the origin of the weapons used by the accused are both under investigation by the police.
