Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of National Security, has received a summons from Parliament requesting that he appear before the legislative body on Thursday, November 9, 2023.

This summons is intended to serve as a thorough briefing for the house on the reported military attacks on the people of Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region by the minister.

Over fifty people were hospitalized as a result of the purported military attack. It was believed that the military troops were the cause of the unrest that took place in Garu over the weekend.

There is a suggestion that a vigilante group in Garu attacked National Security agents, prompting this military operation.

The National Security Minister was instructed to give a thorough account of the events to the lawmakers on November 9, 2023, by Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who was presiding over the proceedings when the matter was brought up. This was in response to the demands made by Members of Parliament for an official investigation into the situation.

He stated, “At the moment, what I want to do is to invite the Minister to appear before the entire house, come and brief us. Probably what we are hearing is different from what the Minister has at his disposal. So let us invite the Minister to appear before the house; he will come and brief the house, and we will proceed from there.”

“Therefore, I am requesting that the Minister appear before the house on Thursday, the 9th of November 2023, to brief the house regarding the issues pertaining to the incidents in Garu and Tempane.”
