The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that everything is prepared for the District Level Elections (DLE) of 2023, which are scheduled to take place nationwide today, Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

In the upcoming DLE, almost 66,000 candidates are vying for seats in the Unit Committee and District Assembly.

According to EC data, there are 66,257 candidates in total—18,755 for assembly members and 47,502 for unit committee members.

Of the 18,755 candidates running for assembly, 17, 474 are men, or 94% of the total, and 1,106 are women, or 6%.

Additionally, of the 47,502 unit committee candidates, 40,923 are men, or 88% of the total, and 5,413 are women, or 11.6 percent.

The EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, guaranteed that the election preparations were ready.

All of the materials—aside from the ballot papers—are available, and since we always opt for full delivery when we go, shortages are not something we anticipate. If shortages occur, the district office will address them, barring any unforeseen circumstances,” Dr. Serebour Quarcoe stated.

Dr. Quarcoe claims that every detail of the preparations has been taken care of to ensure a smooth and successful election process.

He underlined that precautions had been taken to ensure that voting materials are never in low supply at polling places.

“As we approach the district-level elections, the EC is confident in its ability to facilitate a seamless and fair electoral process, ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity to participate in this democratic exercise,” Dr. Serebour Quaicoe added.
