In order to choose candidates for the January 27, 2024, primary, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved 326 parliamentary candidates for the seats it presently has in parliament.
29 candidates from the 373 who registered for the primary will face no opposition. Two were recommended to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two withdrew, one filed an incomplete form, and two did not show up for vetting. Eleven were declared ineligible.
There are 326 eligible candidates for the primaries.
Prominent individuals like Lydia Seyram Alhassan (MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon), Patrick Yaw Boamah (MP for Okaikoi Central), Samuel Abu Jinapor (MP for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources), and others are among those who are contesting without opposition.
As per General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong’s statement, the party has established a National Parliamentary arguments Committee (NPAC) to hear arguments from rejected candidates through Friday.
The appeals must be submitted by Tuesday, January 9.
