President Nana Akufo-Addo’s statement that he disregarded Ekumfi’s advancement because they ousted his lawmaker, according to former president John Mahama, is “very unfortunate.”

In terms of cultivating the constituency, Mr. Akufo-Addo “honestly” acknowledged that he forgot about Ekumfi after they supported Mr. Francis Ato Cudjoe, his favored parliamentary candidate, in the 2020 elections.

To the great dismay of President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Ato Cudjoe was voted out of parliament even though he had been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

When the traditional leaders from the constituency called on the President, he addressed them directly in Twi, saying, “I have to be honest with you, I did not pay attention to development in your area, but since you have brought it up, I will pay attention to it.”

Mr. Mahama responded to the President’s remark on X, “President Akufo-Addo has a penchant for making such partisan statements, as we witnessed recently during his visit to flood victims in Mepe”.

Following his pledge as President to “do justice to all manner of persons,” Mr. Akufo-Addo’s “actions contradict,” according to the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

“Let me also remind him of chapter six of our constitution, specifically Article 36 clause 2(d), which stipulates the need for governments to undertake ‘… even and balanced development of all regions and every part of each region of Ghana, and, in particular, improving the conditions of life in the rural areas, and generally, redressing any imbalance in development between the rural and the urban areas'”.
