The Ghanaian government has ordered Ghanaian drivers and businessmen who use the road for trading activities to halt operations till further notice due to the tragic incident in Bamako, Mali.
The Ghanaian government is closely collaborating with the relevant Malian authorities, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will give updates to enable the resumption of economic activities in due course.
Additionally, the authorities advised Ghanaians residing in Mali to be cautious and restrict their non-essential travel.
“We urge you all to maintain regular contact with the Embassy of Ghana in Bamako,” the statement said.
The government expressed concern about the worsening security situation in the Sahel region, particularly in light of the most recent coordinated terrorist attacks that occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026, on a number of military positions in Mali, including the capital Bamako.
These attacks claimed the lives of General Sadio Camara, the Minister of Defence, as well as a number of military personnel and civilians.
The Ghanaian government wishes the injured a quick recovery and offers its condolences to the government and people of Mali in light of this unfortunate development.
It stated that there cannot be no room for violent extremism in our world and that we must work together to put a stop to this atrocity.
The Ghanaian government reaffirms its support for the Mali government and reassures Ghanaians that their safety, security, and welfare would always come first.
