President John Dramani Mahama met with President Alexander Lukashenko during his State Visit to the Republic of Belarus, followed by bilateral negotiations between the two nations’ delegations aimed at increasing collaboration across critical sectors of respective economies.

Three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed as a result of the engagements, which was a significant step toward improving relations between Ghana and Belarus.

The agreements include increased agricultural cooperation, coordination between the two nations’ chambers of commerce, and the creation of a Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Ghana’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mr. Jehu Appiah; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, signed the Memorandums of Understanding on the country’s behalf.

Speaking at a joint news conference following the discussions, President Mahama highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen cooperation based on equality, respect, and useful results, characterising the visit as a major turning point in the relationship between Ghana and Belarus.

The President emphasised that agriculture is a key component of Ghana’s development strategy and recognised Belarus as a useful ally in attempts to modernise the industry through investment, technology transfer, mechanisation, and research.

Additionally, he described prospects for increased cooperation in commerce, manufacturing, education, renewable energy, and other sectors essential to long-term economic success.

The agreements, according to President Mahama, offer a foundation for increased interaction between the public and private sectors of both nations, opening up new avenues for investment, innovation, and job creation.

He expressed optimism that the visit’s results would mark the beginning of a new phase in Ghana-Belarus ties by converting common goals into tangible projects that benefit both countries’ citizens in the long run.
