In advance of the party’s parliamentary primaries on January 27, executives of the Central Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have formally declared their support for Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Party officials have expressed their belief that Mavis Hawa Koomson’s candidacy will provide the desired outcome and she will be able to keep her parliamentary seat.
Mavis Hawa Koomson, who successfully guided the NPP to victory in the Awutu Senya East Constituency for three terms in a row, has announced her decision to run for a fourth term in parliament and entered the parliamentary campaign.
Percy Dennis, the Acting Chairman of the NPP’s Central Regional branch, has deemed Mavis Hawa Koomson the party’s best chance of retaining the parliamentary seat, despite challenge from two other candidates.
Percy Dennis emphasized the change in voter preferences seen in the constituency, pointing to the opposition NDC’s better results in the 2020 elections due to the presence of a female candidate.
In response to the voters in the constituency’s apparent preference for female leadership, he underlined the necessity of fielding Mavis Hawa Koomson as the NPP’s candidate.
Speaking to party delegates during a gathering to bolster her base of support, Mavis Hawa Koomson declared herself the most competent of the candidates.
She promised to lead the New Patriotic Party to again another triumph in the parliamentary and presidential elections.
