Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s proposal, which called for a minimum one-month community service penalty in lieu of a minimum two-month jail sentence for anyone found guilty of participating in LGBT activities, was rejected by Parliament.
Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin accepted a move made by Alexander Afenyo-Markin to reexamine the anti-LGBT measure during its third reading stage in the legislature. The house gave its approval to the motion.
But in the course of the bill’s extensive amendment process, Parliament rejected the Deputy Majority Leader’s initial plan.
The Speaker of Parliament addressed the development on Thursday, declaring, “The Nos have it. The amendment is rejected as presented.”
