The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed the Election Committee’s first decision, rejecting George Afriyie’s attempt to reverse his disqualification from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential election of 2023.

Kurt Okraku was elected to a second term as President of the GFA with no opposition last year, thanks to this outcome.

Afriyie was disqualified due to the fact that he submitted false endorsement paperwork for his candidacy, notably having Jeffrey Asare, an uncertified individual, sign them.

Asare did not have a directorship position at Victory Club Warriors FC, despite what was shown on the endorsement forms, according to additional research.

Despite Afriyie’s internal appeal within the GFA, the outcome was not favorable. In an attempt to get a different decision, he then escalated the matter to CAS.

But after giving it some thought, CAS decided to support the Elections Committee’s initial ruling. Afriyie acknowledged the verdict in a statement following this final judgment:

“I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),” the statement mentioned.

“The CAS, in their decision, has upheld the decision of the Elections Committee of the GFA. I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period.” statement added.

This puts an end to the months-long controversy that began with Afriyie’s original disqualification in September 2023 and was initiated by the GFA.
