The public has been reassured by the National Communication Authority (NCA) that data rates will drop by the year’s final quarter.
This is in reaction to complaints about expensive data plans and subpar offerings.
The NCA explained that rather than impeding MTN’s business activities, the company’s designation as a Significant Market Power (SMP) is meant to encourage fair competition.
To promote competition and safeguard consumers, the Authority intends to put policies like tariff parity and uneven interconnection prices into effect.
NGIC wholesale carrier-neutral open access network will let operators to purchase bulk data more effectively, resulting in lower prices, NCA Director General Dr. Joe Anokye said on Citi FM.
He was upbeat about the prospect of lower data costs following the network’s anticipated rollout later this year.
