Daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, Samia Yaba Nkrumah has announced her desire to become an independent and has left her father’s party, the Conventions People’s Party.
The area’s previous member of parliament has announced that she will be running as an independent for the December 7 elections in an effort to once more represent the people of the Jomoro Constituency in the Western.
“I am running as an independent candidate to re-enter parliament through the Jomoro Constituency,” she declared when explaining her choice to the media.
Running as an independent, according to her, involves fighting against extreme partisanship that fails to advance the interests of the people and prioritizing Ghana.
She claims that the independent card is a novel approach to politics that provides a chance to work with others to advance local development.
She stated that “I don’t want us to be extremely partisan, I want Ghanaians to build consensus looking for the way forward in the future, and I don’t think the future lies in being so entrenched in one party or another,”
She said that in order to put Ghana on the path to progress, people should look beyond party politics.
“Today, there are Kwame Nkrumah supporters in every party; Nkrumaism, the values of Kwame Nkrumah, has transcended a political party; Ghana must come together,” Samia Nkrumah continued. Without people making sacrifices, it cannot be done,” she declared.
