Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) national communication officer, has urged Ghanaians to impose a state of emergency on the New Patriotic Party for depleting the nation’s water resources.
This follows numerous groups and people demanding that the galamsey threat be stopped.
In addition, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana called for rapid government action to address the persistent threat of illicit mining, also known as galamsey, on behalf of Organized Labor.
The leaders of Organized Labor gathered to talk about the terrible effects of illicit mining and how they affect the nation’s ecology, public health, and long-term economic viability.
The devastation of agricultural areas, water bodies, and forest cover was mentioned, and they expressed their profound concern over the increasing public conversation on the subject.
The NDC’s National Communication Officer responded to the development by stating that the NPP is powerless to stop the galamsey threat.
He also urged Ghanaians to remove the NPP from government because they were contaminating the waterways.
“If the NPP could not fight Galamsey in 2,805 days (i.e since 7th January 2017) with Operation Vanguard, GALAMSTOP etc., they can certainly not fight Galamsey in 86 days whether or not a state of emergency is declared.
“Ghanaians should simply declare a state of emergency on the NPP for destroying our water bodies, forest reserves, and lands and vote them out on 7th December, 2024”, he tweeted.

The Apostolic Fathers of Ghana, however, are also pleading with the government to impose a short-term prohibition on any kind of small-scale mining until the country finds a permanent solution to the problem of illicit mining that plagues it.
Religious leaders warned that the nation might suffer negative health and socioeconomic effects if the pandemic was left unchecked in a press release signed by Archbishop Duncan Williams on behalf of over a dozen Apostolic heavyweights.
The declaration from the respected leaders is made in the context of the many appeals from Ghanaians for the president to declare a state of emergency in order to support the nation’s efforts in the fight against galamsey.
