As Ghana eagerly awaits the official announcement of the winner, the United States has congratulated the people of Ghana on a successful election that reflects the will of the electorate.
The US Embassy in Ghana stated in a Facebook post that it supports the peaceful holding of the elections and stresses the significance of the handover of power.
“Congratulations to all Ghanaians on a successful election that reflects the will of the Ghanaian people. The United States looks forward to continuing our strong partnership under John Dramani Mahama,” the embassy wrote.
The embassy praised all candidates for their dedication to a peaceful election process, even though the Electoral Commission (EC) has not yet formally announced the outcome of Saturday’s voting.
“We commend all of the candidates that stood for election this cycle and their commitment to peaceful elections and the transfer of power as so eloquently expressed in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s concession speech,” the post read.
“We stand with the people of Ghana and their belief in the power of the people and that #DemocracyDelivers,” the embassy added.
The US Embassy emphasized its conviction in the strength of democracy while reaffirming its support with the people of Ghana.
The diplomatic community has praised Ghana’s dedication to democratic processes and peaceful transitions, but the Electoral Commission’s pronouncement is still pending.
