The nomination papers for the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer election have been picked up by former president John Mahama.

This comes after he said on Tuesday during a visit to his home that he would run for the Minority Caucus.

All of the NDC’s regional chairs, as well as his erstwhile rival Joshua Alabi, support him wholeheartedly and think that he should be chosen to lead the party into the general elections in 2024 because he stands out among the other contenders.

The time is now for a messiah to deliver the nation from its predicament, according to Mr. Alabi, who was leading a group to choose the nomination forms on Mr. Mahama’s behalf.

“We can’t afford to allow them to sit down while we have a very huge challenge. So we are here to pick his form and to work for him, the NDC and the people of Ghana. They need us and we need to lead. I am very confident that come 2024 December, January 2025, NDC will be forming the new government under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

“Somewhere in the 80s when it was very difficult for this country, it was the experienced hands of people from the NDC who were able to move the country from the very challenging moment. Again, we have a similar challenge, we have experienced hands and they are all available and ready to support Mr Mahama,” he added.

Mr. Alabi also guaranteed Ghanaians that, if Mr. Mahama were elected president, progress would be evident over the course of the following two years.

John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Dean of the NDC’s Regional Chairmen, added that they are prepared to ensure John Mahama’s victory in the election and have his full support.

He claimed that this was because Mr. Mahama was the most popular and experienced member of the party, which led to their support.

“We are all democrats and I, John Kwadwo Gyapong support my flagbearer, former president … if you are talking about my regional chairmen on one-on-one, I know that everybody supports John Mahama,” he said.

Ernest Kwaku Krobeah, a new contender and a businessman, has, however, surfaced. He hopes to compete favorably with Mr. Mahama.

Mr. Krobeah appealed for support by promising a new Ghana.

“So I will build a new Ghana for Ghana to have a peaceful life, nice accommodation to live in and the youth need me to be there to make the change, because we have suffered for many years,” he said.

He asserts that whether or not he is well-known within the party will not prevent him from providing for Ghanaians.
