The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has formally announced the commencement of the nomination process for the next Council of State elections, which are set to take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in all regional capitals throughout the nation.
A press release signed by Mrs. Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, on January 22, 2025, announced the announcement.
The EC described the procedure for choosing Regional Representatives to the Council of State in compliance with Article 89, Clause (2), Paragraph (C) of the 1992 Constitution.
Qualified candidates must submit their nomination papers and two copies of a recent passport-sized photo with a red backdrop, according to EC. Submissions will be accepted at the EC’s Regional Directors’ offices between Tuesday, January 28 and Friday, January 31, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM every day.
The candidate must receive the support of twenty more registered voters in addition to the endorsement of two registered voters in their area in order to be considered for the nomination.
To be eligible to run for office, the candidate must also agree to be nominated.
Nomination forms must be downloaded from the EC’s official website (www.ec.gov.gh) and filled out in triplicate before being submitted, the agency stressed. The completed forms must be delivered to the addresses that the EC’s regional directors have given.
By choosing important members of the Council of State, which advises the president, this year’s elections seek to fortify Ghana’s democratic administration.
