Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Visits Central Regional House of Chiefs, Discusses Ghana’s Economic Development
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has paid a courtesy visit to the Central Regional House of Chiefs in Cape Coast, where she was welcomed by the President of the House, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, along with other traditional leaders.
Addressing the Vice President, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII praised the Government for making significant progress in Ghana’s economic recovery and implementing major national development projects aimed at improving livelihoods across the country.
He cited flagship initiatives, including the Big Push infrastructure programme, the 24-Hour Economy market initiative, and the continued construction of Agenda 111 hospitals, describing them as important steps toward accelerating Ghana’s socio-economic development.
The chief also urged the Government to prioritise youth employment, improve road infrastructure leading to key tourist attractions in the Central Region, and fast-track other strategic development projects. He expressed confidence that completing the Fisheries College would strengthen skills development and support the growth of Ghana’s blue economy.
Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII reaffirmed the commitment of the Central Regional House of Chiefs to partnering with the Government to promote sustainable development, economic growth, and the overall progress of both the region and Ghana.

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has expressed gratitude to the chiefs and residents of the Central Region for their strong support of the Government, assuring them that their confidence and trust will not be taken for granted.
She noted that the Government inherited a challenging economic environment and has been working diligently to address pressing economic and development issues. Despite these difficulties, she said the administration remains committed to implementing policies that improve the quality of life for Ghanaians through enhanced road infrastructure, expanded educational opportunities, and better-equipped schools with qualified teachers and adequate learning resources.
The Vice President also highlighted the Government’s commitment to decentralisation and local governance, pointing to the historic increase in allocations to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). According to her, the additional funding will empower Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to deliver community-based development projects that address local priorities and improve public services.
During discussions with the traditional leaders, both parties underscored the importance of unlocking the Central Region’s vast potential in tourism, agriculture, fisheries, and human capital development to drive sustainable economic growth and create employment opportunities.
To accelerate progress, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang encouraged stronger collaboration between traditional authorities and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). She said closer cooperation would help fast-track development projects, eliminate implementation challenges, and ensure that communities benefit fully from ongoing Government initiatives.
She also appealed to Ghanaians to remain patient as the Government gradually rolls out its national development agenda, while calling for unity and collective effort beyond political affiliations to advance the country’s shared goals.
The Vice President concluded by commending the chiefs of the Central Region for their steadfast commitment to peace, stability, and community development, describing their leadership and partnership as essential to the Government’s vision of transforming local communities, strengthening the economy, and improving the welfare of all Ghanaians.
