The Military High Command gave the go-ahead for the Ghana Armed Forces’ military action in Ashaiman on March 7, 2023, which resulted in the arrest of 184 individuals and the brutalization of some locals.

The Armed Forces, however, made it clear that the operation was not intended to exact revenge for the death of Trooper Imoro Sherrif, a soldier who was killed nearby by a mob while visiting his parents over the weekend, but rather to find the criminals who committed the crime.

Following its operations at Ashiman-Taifa and Tulaku, the GAF said that it had detained 184 suspects between the ages of 21 and 47. It then turned the suspects over to the Military Police, who screened them before sending them to the Ghana Police Service for further action.

Personnel from the armed forces confiscated 29 slabs and 57 small slabs of suspected Indian hemp, amnesia, and other types of narcotics during the raid.

The GAF emphasized that the swoop was conducted on suspected criminal hideouts and crime-prone regions rather than innocent citizens and that it was intelligence-led.

GAF said it, however, regrets that some innocent civilians might have been caught up in the operation and subsequently felt some hardship due to the place they found themselves at the time.

In order to reduce criminal activity in the nation, GAF is urging the people to share information, aid security authorities in expelling miscreants and criminals from the community, and refrain from protecting and collaborating with such individuals.
