Lands Minister Affirms Govt’s Commitment To Sustainable Mining; Meets Canadian High Commissioner

Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, had a courtesy call from H.E. Myriam Montrat, Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

The determination of both nations to combat illegal mining and the economic prospects in Ghana’s extractive industry for Canadian businesses are included in the conversations.

During the visit, the Hon. Minister and the High Commissioner also reaffirmed their commitment to working together for the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention in Toronto, Canada.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah underlined the Ghanaian government’s resolve to transform the mining industry in order to establish a sustainable setting that offers investors enormous returns and advances the country.

He clarified that the government, working via his Ministry, is working to remove obstacles in the mining license system and open it up to investors who promise to conduct their mining operations in accordance with Ghana’s environmental and climate protection regulations.

“We must review our process too make things simple. The issue of corruption will be taken serious I can assure you. The government of H. E John Dramani Mahama is committed to making sure that companies that are doing businesses must feel that the systems are clear, whiles stressing that we must review our process and no need to see any big man”, he said.

Ghana’s involvement in the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), which will feature exploration firms, governments, equipment, and service providers in the mining industry globally, was confirmed by the Lands Minister.

The Ghana-Canada relationship was also emphasized at the meeting, and the Lands Minister thanked Canada for its years of assistance and collaboration.
