As part of its attempts to stop smuggling, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has said that it is attempting to address price differences in the cocoa industry.

The incident comes after 1115 liters of cocoa beans were intercepted on their way to Togo at the Ave-Havi border.

COCOBOD has been given the confiscated beans while the investigation is ongoing.

In an interview with Citi News, Charles Amenyaglo, Director of Special Services, stated that COCOBOD is taking action to monitor and stop cocoa smuggling.

“COCOBOD is finding innovative ways of fighting the smuggling menace. As we speak, we want to identify all the routes so that we can block all those routes and all the strategies that they use.”

“So the management of COCOBOD is deliberating on how to, when it comes to price disparity, we are looking at various ways of bridging that and there is a committee working on that.”

“In the interim, we are manning the access routes and then we do spot checks and thorough searches to identify people who are carrying the beans.” Mr Amenyaglo said.
