The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa (MP), had a courtesy call from the Council on Foreign Relations, Ghana (CFR-GHANA) on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

Under the leadership of Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, the delegation consisted of Ambassador Kwame Tenkorang, Ambassador Akua Dansua, Ambassador Yaw Odei Asare, and Lady-Ann Essuman.

In addition to welcoming the delegation, the Hon. Minister gave them an update on the results of his courtesy calls to some former Foreign Affairs Ministers and his involvement in the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council meetings of the African Union in Addis Ababa, where three Ghanaians were elected to various positions at the African Union Commission.

He offered to interact with the Council frequently in order to use their knowledge and input to help Ghana achieve its foreign policy goals.

The Minister provided information about the establishment of the Ministry’s Advisory Board, which would greatly benefit from their experience, the review of Ghana’s foreign policy directive, and the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for ambassadors to help them achieve Ghana’s foreign policy and economic diplomacy goals, among other things.

He hinted that the Council and the Ministry would confer on the steps to be taken in order to fully operationalize the Foreign Service Institute (FSI).

On behalf of the Council, Ambassador Kabral-Blay congratulated the Hon. Minister and recalled that the Foreign Ministry had the best professional team, which will continue to flourish under his capable direction.

He thanked the Ministry for the tremendous support the Council has received since its founding.

He stated that the Council is prepared to collaborate with the Ministry to create the Institute’s curriculum since it sees the Foreign Service Institute as a hub for diplomats in the subregion.

Ghana’s foreign policy and international issues, particularly those concerning the West African subregion, are the focus of the independent, nonpartisan Council on Foreign Relations, Ghana.
