Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) says it is set to begin the spillage of excess water from the Weija Dam.

According to a letter from GWCL dated April 7, 2025, the start of the rains is causing the water level to progressively rise.

According to GWCL, failing to release the water could result in the dam collapsing, putting people and property in danger.

GWCL stated in the letter that the spilling procedure will start at a low rate to minimize its downstream impact, but it did not explicitly say when the exercise would start.

The spillage would continue as long as the water level kept rising, but the actual rate would be determined by the water flow entering the dam.

Any problems that may result from the spillage have been apologized for by GWCL.
