The administrators of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) announced in a statement dated May 6, 2025, that Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam has been named the new CEO of the hospital.
Following the resignation of Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah in October 2024, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, Director of Medical Affairs of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), served as the hospital’s interim CEO.
October 5, 2024, marked the end of Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah’s four-year tenure as Korle Bu’s CEO.
Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere was then named temporary CEO by the hospital’s Board of Directors, pending word from the appointing authorities on the next course of action.
Last Friday, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Health Minister, officially opened the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s newly established board.
The new CEO will formally take office on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, according to a May 6, 2025, announcement from Korle Bu management announcing his appointment.
The announcement continued: “Dr. Adam’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of Ghana’s premier tertiary healthcare institution.”
“He brings a wealth of experience, clinical expertise, and visionary leadership to the role,” the statement continued, citing his more than two decades of devoted commitment to Korle Bu.
Dr. Adam joined KBTH in 2003 and is a consultant eye surgeon.
Since then, he has worked in the subspecialties of refractive surgery, cataracts, and glaucoma.
After being named Head of the Lions International Eye Centre in 2017, he took the centre to new heights of success and established it as one of the subregion’s premier ophthalmology facilities.
In addition to being an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Turkish Ophthalmology Society, and the Ophthalmological Society of Ghana, Dr. Adam is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons.
“He has made significant contributions to clinical research, with numerous publications in respected local and international peer-reviewed journals.”
“His appointment is expected to further advance Korle Bu’s mission of delivering world-class healthcare, research, and medical training.”
“Driven by a deep zeal and commitment to service, Dr. Adam believes that together, we can build a better Korle Bu,” the statement read.
